The Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Peren, organized a one-day workshop on “Entrepreneurship Development in Commercialization of Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio) Breeding” on February 19, 2025, at Ramdi Thou Farm, Mhainamtsi, Jalukie, under the extension & training 2023-2024 (State Plan).

The workshop aimed to empower local fish farmers with the knowledge and skills to venture into the commercial breeding of Common Carp, a highly sought-after fish species known for its adaptability, rapid growth, and high market demand.
District Fishery Officer (DFO) Peren, C. Dory Yanthan, gave a brief overview of the program, emphasizing its goal of sensitizing and equipping fish farmers with essential tools to succeed in Common Carp breeding.
Special guest ADC Jalukie, T.L. Kiusumong Tikhir, applauded the initiative, highlighting the potential impact of such training on the community. He encouraged the farmers to engage fully in the session, absorb valuable insights, and leverage this opportunity for entrepreneurial growth. “I hope this training will inspire new entrepreneurs and significantly boost the economic well-being of our farmers,” said Tikhir.
The workshop highlighted how Common Carp breeding can create job opportunities, especially for rural youth, women, and marginalized communities. By establishing a stable market for high-demand fish, the initiative is set to increase farmers’ income and contribute to overall rural development.
In the technical session, DFO Dimapur, Imtisunep, presented detailed methods for breeding Common Carp, while Assistant Fishery Inspector (AFI) Neimelu Noswe introduced farmers to key government schemes such as the NFDP, PMMKSSY, and KCC, which can provide financial support and resources for their ventures.
Participants were also given a practical demonstration on fish feed preparation by ATMA, Jalukie Block. Altogether, 13 fish farmers from Jalukie Block attended the session, eager to learn and apply new methods to improve their farming practices and expand their businesses.
