The All India Congress Committee (AICC) Minority Department convened a strategic meeting on April 18 in New Delhi, bringing together State Incharges and Co-Incharges to “discuss strategies for strengthening the department’s organizational structure from the block to booth level.” The meeting, chaired by Imran Pratapgarhi, aimed at expanding the department’s reach and “ensuring robust representation across India.”
As per the directive issued, all State Incharges have been instructed to “establish District Chairmen and their respective committees by May 5, 2025,” a move the department said would “enhance grassroots engagement and ensure the department’s presence at every level.”
Nagaland, Northeast Coordination and Proposals from the Region
Rajesh Kumar Sethi, National Coordinator and Incharge of Manipur, presented a “comprehensive one-year activities report card” highlighting the Minority Department’s achievements in Manipur. During the meeting, Sethi put forth two proposals:
He urged that “whenever the Chairman visits Assam, all North East Minority Department Incharges and Chairmen be informed and invited to participate,” which he said would foster greater interaction and collaboration.
He further recommended the formation of a “Northeast Coordination Committee for the Minority Department before the upcoming Assam elections,” stating it would strengthen coordination and mutual support among northeastern states.
T Thomas Konyak, Incharge of Tripura, who travelled “from the Myanmar border Nagaland to attend the meeting,” thanked the Chairman for approving the appointment of the Tripura Minority Department Chairman and expressed his commitment to “implementing the strategies outlined in the meeting to bolster the department’s organizational framework in Tripura.”
Mehboob Choker, newly appointed as the Incharge of Nagaland, also shared insights from his recent visit to the state and “assured that he would work towards strengthening the Department in line with the guidance provided by its Chairman during the meeting.”
Protest against ED’s chargesheet in National Herald Case
Before the meeting, Rajesh Kumar Sethi and T Thomas Konyak joined Chairman Imran Pratapgarhi and other office bearers in a protest against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for naming Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the chargesheet related to the National Herald case. The AICC Minority Department condemned the ED, stating it was functioning as a “B-team of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).”
The leaders said the actions reflect “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s fear of Rahul Gandhi’s growing influence,” particularly in light of Gandhi’s “bold call to form a Congress government in Gujarat in the upcoming assembly elections.”
The AICC Minority Department concluded the meeting by reiterating its “dedication to fostering unity, inclusivity, and grassroots empowerment,” emphasizing its resolve to amplify the voices of minority communities and strengthen the Congress Party’s national presence.
