Nagaland Police on June 6 responded swiftly to a distress call from Mumbai regarding a kidnapping case involving one Mohan Kumar. Initial reports indicated that Mohan Kumar had been abducted by unknown individuals in Nagaland’s Naginimora area, demanding ransom from his family in Mumbai.
According to a press statement issued by the Nagaland Police, it launched a rescue operation that lasted nearly six hours. Their efforts bore fruit when they successfully apprehended three suspects believed to be involved in the abduction. Simultaneously, another team located Mohan Kumar, rescuing him from captivity. Despite sustaining injuries during his ordeal, Mohan Kumar was safely recovered.
The alleged abductors claimed that their actions were motivated by Mohan Kumar and his associates’ purported involvement in a scam against them, prompting them to resort to such drastic measures to recoup their losses. They had filed a complaint regarding the scam at Diphupar Police Station.
On the other hand, the victim Mohan Kumar alleged that he had been held captive for approximately ten days, was assaulted during this period, and ransom was demanded from his family. He further stated that some amount had been transferred via GPay, which were the reasons for the FIR registered in Mumbai.
Following the rescue, on June 7, a detailed inquiry was initiated, with statements from all parties recorded. It emerged during the investigation that Mohan Kumar and his associates were already embroiled in a case registered at Diphupar Police Station, further complicating the narrative.
Upon learning about Mohan Kumar’s presence in Mon, Diphupar PS was informed, and on 8 June, their team arrived and apprehended Mohan Kumar as an accused in the case registered in Nagaland.
Diphupar PS also clarified that they need to examine the alleged abductors in their case to gain clarity regarding the role of Mohan Kumar and his co-conspirators in the fraud-related matter.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai Police team reached Mon and was briefed in detail about the two separate cases and the overall situation. Thereafter, the Mumbai Police team was advised to proceed to Diphupar Police Station and pursue the legal proceedings for obtaining transit remand of the accused through appropriate legal channels.
Mumbai Police has since obtained transit remand from the Dimapur CJM and has taken the three abductors, after arresting them, to Mumbai in connection with the abduction and ransom demand case registered there.
