The Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) has issued two important directives to streamline public transport services and improve traffic regulation within Mokokchung town, effective from July 1, 2025.
According to the notification issued by Atsungba Walling, ADC and Chief Executive Officer of MMC, all inter-state and inter-district transport services, including buses and sumos, will henceforth operate exclusively from the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) at Yimyu, Mokokchung. The directive, however, exempts vehicles that are scheduled to depart or arrive before 6:00 AM, for the time being. From 6:00 AM onwards, all such transport services must be stationed and operated from ISBT.
In a separate but related directive, the MMC also informed that all intra-district Sumo, Ecco, and Winger services plying between villages and sub-divisional headquarters within Mokokchung District shall arrive and depart only from the designated basement area of the MMC Shopping Complex.
The MMC also stated that the designated basement area is strictly to be used for passenger pick-up and drop-off, and not for parking or long-term stationing of vehicles.
Both directives are part of a broader initiative to ensure systematic traffic management and streamlined public transport movement within the town. Transport operators, counters, and related stakeholders have been directed to comply strictly with the new regulations. Non-compliance will attract penalties under existing municipal rules, it stated.
