In the interest of public safety, smooth traffic flow, and organized urban management, the district administration has announced a series of traffic regulations and restrictions to be strictly enforced in Mokokchung town starting July 1, 2025.

According to the official circular, the entry of heavy trucks and buses will be restricted during specific hours. During the summer months, entry will be prohibited from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, while during the winter months, the restriction will apply from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. These restrictions will not apply on Sundays.

Loading and unloading of goods and materials will not be permitted within town limits during the restricted hours. Additionally, owners of vehicles that are either off-road or abandoned along highways and public roads must remove them within ten days from the issuance of the notification.

Construction and building materials placed along roads or highways must be cleared immediately. Vehicles must also be parked only at designated parking zones. Violations of this directive will result in penalties.

Adjustments to traffic flow have also been introduced. Vehicles coming from the IMDH and MMC Complex toward the Main Police Point will no longer have the right of way and must await instructions from on-duty traffic personnel.

The administration has also reiterated that modifications such as the use of altered silencers or exhaust pipes, tinted windows, and bull bars are strictly prohibited under the Motor Vehicles Act. Those found violating these provisions will face penalties.

Commuters are reminded to always give unhindered passage to ambulances and other emergency vehicles. Drivers are also urged to maintain road discipline by avoiding drunken driving, over-speeding, and double parking.

Departments exempted from these restrictions include the district administration, police, paramilitary forces, fire and emergency services, medical services, and the power department.

Non-compliance with the circular will invite legal action and penalties as per the Motor Vehicles Act.
