The Chakhro Angami Kuda Students’ Union (CAKSU) has come out strongly in support of the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU), extending “full support and solidarity” in the latter’s stand against what it called the “fraudulent acquisition of Indigenous Certificates and land by non-local individuals in Dimapur.”

In a statement issued on Thursday, CAKSU said it “commends DNSU for its thorough fact-finding and responsible representation to the concerned authorities” with regard to the recent case involving one Mr. Nirmal Jain. The case, CAKSU stated, “raises serious questions over the misuse of documents to falsely claim indigenous status,” adding that “such acts not only undermine the laws of the land but also threaten the inherent rights, ancestral land and identity of the indigenous Naga people.”

The student body took a firm stand against what it termed “any attempt to exploit or manipulate the system for personal gain by falsely assuming tribal identities,” stressing that such actions “jeopardize the social, legal and economic balance of our society and must be addressed with urgency and seriousness.”

Calling on the relevant government agencies to “treat this issue with utmost gravity and take swift and appropriate legal action against those found guilty,” CAKSU asserted that the “fraudulent acquisition of land and misrepresentation of identity must not be tolerated under any circumstance.”

Further, the union called for the implementation of “stricter verification mechanisms to prevent such illegal practices in the future.”

Affirming its commitment to the rights and welfare of indigenous people, CAKSU concluded by reaffirming “its position to stand alongside DNSU and all like-minded organizations in upholding the dignity, land and identity of the Naga people.”
