Key highway connecting eastern Nagaland to be covered
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has sanctioned the Short Term Maintenance Contract (STMC) for National Highway-202, covering a 244-kilometre stretch connecting parts of eastern Nagaland, Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang informed on Wednesday.
The maintenance works, which will cover stretches in Tuensang, Shamator, Kiphire and Meluri districts, will be carried out under a one-year contract period from the date of issuance of Work Orders.
Zeliang said the open tendering process for the project has been completed and Work Orders will be issued shortly. The nine packages under NH-202 have been awarded to different contractors, with a total sanctioned amount of approximately Rs 37.56 crore.
The awarded stretches include Chare Km 39 to Km 60 and Km 60 to Km 90, both awarded to A Phongshi Phom at Rs 3.46 crore and Rs 4.28 crore respectively. The Km 120 to Km 150 stretch has been awarded to M/s Hi-Tech & Co. for Rs 4.36 crore, while M/s G.B.S. Tech Enterprises has been awarded the Km 150 to Km 177 stretch for Rs 4.21 crore.
Four packages from Km 177 to Km 283 have been awarded to M/s Zeliezhu & Sons, with sanctioned amounts ranging between Rs 3.90 crore and Rs 4.52 crore. The work award for the Km 90 to Km 120 stretch, sanctioned at Rs 4.59 crore, is still pending between Innovative Construction and M/s Chittaranjan Saha & Others.
The announcement comes at a time when several road stretches across the region have been affected by continuous rainfall. Zeliang urged contractors to mobilise immediately after receiving their Work Orders and begin maintenance works without delay.
He also informed that additional maintenance works have been awarded for other National Highway stretches, including NH-329A from Km 38.63 to Km 72.27 under M/s G.B.S. Tech Enterprises at a sanctioned cost of Rs 4.60 crore; NH-02 from Km 220 to Km 240 under Mokokchung Division to Punia Construction Company for Rs 3.61 crore; and two stretches of NH-702A under Phek Division to M/s Zeliezhu & Sons for Rs 4.60 crore and Rs 4.59 crore respectively.
Zeliang directed all contractors to strictly adhere to the specifications and standards prescribed in the contract agreements.
He also appealed to citizens and community leaders to cooperate with the executing agencies while remaining vigilant to ensure quality and accountability in the implementation of the works.
“The Government remains committed to improving road infrastructure across the State and will continue to pursue all necessary measures to ensure better connectivity and safer roads for our people,” he stated.
