Nagaland continues to reel under the impact of relentless monsoon rains, with flash floods and waterlogging reported across multiple districts, including Dimapur, Wokha, and Niuland.
In Dimapur, incessant heavy rainfall has left several low-lying areas flooded, forcing residents to evacuate their homes.

Meanwhile, Wokha district also witnessed continuous heavy rainfall, triggering flash floods and causing significant damage to standing crops and essential agricultural infrastructure. In Niuland, the district administration reported widespread flooding, submerging residential houses and causing extensive damage to paddy fields, farms, and roads.

Incessant rainfall triggers severe flooding and landslides in Niuland District

The Niuland District Administration has issued a press release regarding the incessant rainfall experienced on the intervening night of July 4 and 5, 2025, which led to swollen rivers and streams, resulting in widespread flooding across the district.

Large areas have been inundated, submerging residential houses and causing extensive damage to paddy fields, fishery ponds, plantations, farms, and roads. The calamity has affected more than 70 villages, displacing thousands of farmers and severely impacting their livelihoods.

The administration further reported that one of the worst-affected routes—the road connecting S. Hetoyi Village and Ghokuto Village—has become impassable due to a major landslide. A section of the road has been completely washed away, cutting off Ghokuto Village from essential services, including medical aid and supplies of food and water.

The District Administration stated that it is closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary steps to assess the damage and provide emergency relief. Rescue and restoration efforts are underway; however, continuous rainfall continues to pose serious challenges to access and relief operations.

Riverside activities banned in Dimapur amid monsoon flood risk

The Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Nagaland, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, NCS, has issued an official advisory urging the public to avoid riverside areas due to the onset of the monsoon season and the heightened risk of flash floods and rising water levels.

According to the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), recent heavy rainfall has significantly increased the threat of flooding in rivers and streams across the district. The public is strongly advised to refrain from engaging in fishing, picnicking, or any other water-related activities along riverbanks.

All village councils situated near rivers have been requested to strictly enforce this directive until the end of the monsoon season. The advisory emphasises that this is a matter of public safety and must be adhered to by all concerned.

In case of emergencies, residents are encouraged to contact: State Emergency Operation Centre: 1070 (Toll-free), or 0370-2291120 / 0370-2291122 and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF): 9366819486 / 7005806182 / 8415085131

The administration has reiterated that these measures are precautionary but essential to safeguard lives and property during this high-risk period.
