The Government of Nagaland has officially announced the freezing of administrative boundaries across the state in preparation for the upcoming Census Operations 2027.

According to a notification issued by the Home Department, General Administration Branch-I, and signed by Chief Secretary Dr. J. Alam, IAS, the administrative boundaries of all districts, tehsils, municipalities, sub-divisions, villages, etc. shall stand frozen with effect from December 31, 2025.

The order, issued under Rule 8 (iv) of the Census Rules, 1990, framed under the Census Act, 1948, further states that the freeze will be effective from January 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027, to facilitate the smooth conduct of Census 2027.

This move is in line with standard census protocols, which require that no changes be made to administrative boundaries during the census period to ensure accuracy and consistency in data collection.
