The Wokha District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) finalized dates for the district’s first-ever Banana Festival during its monthly meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner and Vice Chairman DPDB, Vineet Kumar, IAS, and attended by Advisor for Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan, MLA Mhonbemo Humtsoe, and heads of various departments and committee representatives.

The Banana Festival, scheduled for 22nd and 23rd October 2025, aims to promote agricultural innovation, showcase local produce, and strengthen market linkages. Committees and departments presented progress reports and outlined preparations, including logistical arrangements, ground management, identification of banana-based by-products for exhibition, engagement of buyers and stakeholders, technical workshops, and media outreach. The official theme of the festival was also approved.
The festival is expected to provide a platform for farmers, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders to explore market opportunities and learn about innovative practices in banana cultivation. Officials emphasized the importance of community participation and collaborative efforts to ensure a successful event that highlights Wokha’s agricultural potential and encourages sustainable practices.
