Moasunep, a 36-year-old Physical Education teacher from Changtongya Village, Mokokchung, is currently making his mark on the national volleyball scene as the only representative from Nagaland officiating at the Prime Volleyball League (PVL) 2025 in Hyderabad. The professional men’s indoor volleyball league, held from October 2 to 26, has attracted top talent and officials from across India and abroad.
Moasunep’s participation in the PVL not only highlights his personal achievements but also reflects the rising standards of volleyball in Nagaland, inspiring young referees and players in the state.

Currently based in Changtongya Town, Moasunep teaches at St. John School, Changtongya, while balancing his commitments as a match official. He was among 36 newly certified state volleyball referees who successfully cleared the Nagaland State Level Volleyball Referee Exam 2023 in Mokokchung. The event, organized by the Mokokchung District Volleyball Association under the aegis of the Nagaland Volleyball Association and the Department of Youth Resources & Sports, aimed to enhance refereeing competencies, refine knowledge of volleyball rules, and elevate the overall standard of officiating in the state.
Reflecting on his journey to the PVL, Moasunep said that his breakthrough came in May 2025 when he served as a volleyball official at the Khelo India U-19 Youth Games held in Patna, Bihar. “Observing my skills there, the PVL identified me. I received a call to officiate in the league, which I gladly accepted,” he told Mokokchung Times.

In the Prime Volleyball League, Moasunep is entrusted with multiple officiating responsibilities including refereeing, line judging, and scorekeeping. The league began with defending champions Calicut Heroes taking on hosts Hyderabad Black Hawks, and features 10 teams divided into two pools of five. During the league stage, each team competes against four teams in its pool and three from the opposite pool. The top four teams at the conclusion of the league stage will advance to the semifinals, with the final scheduled for October 26.

Sharing his experience, Moasunep expressed gratitude for the opportunity. “It is an honor to represent Nagaland at a national level. I look forward to applying this exposure to contribute to the growth of volleyball back home,” he said. He also mentioned that he will be returning home on October 27.
