HMVs to be diverted; LMVs to use Kisama–Kigwema route during 10-hour closure
A section of National Highway-2 (Kohima–Mao) passing through the Phesama sinking area will remain closed on Tuesday, August 4, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to facilitate restoration work and ensure public safety, the District Magistrate of Kohima has announced.
The temporary closure follows a communication from the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), PMU Jakhama, which reported intermittent falling of boulders from adjoining hill slopes along the affected stretch between Chainage Km 191+840 and Km 192+100.
During the closure, the movement of Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) will remain suspended.
Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) will be diverted via the Kisama–Kigwema route through Phesama Rhododendron Resort, which will be open for two-way traffic.
The district administration has advised Manipur-bound HMVs to travel via Peren district. In emergencies, the Kohima–Jessami and Chakhabama–Zunheboto roads may be used, subject to permissible load limits.
District Magistrate B Henok Buchem, NCS, appealed to the public to cooperate with the temporary traffic restrictions to facilitate the smooth execution of restoration works and ensure the safety of commuters.
