Project under Smart City Mission aims to enhance quality of life and strengthen community ties

Nagaland’s Minister for Women Resource Development and Horticulture, Salhoutuonuo Kruse, inaugurated the Midland Community Hall-cum-Car Parking Facility in Kohima on Thursday. The project was implemented by Kohima Smart City Development Ltd. (KSCDL) under the Smart City Mission of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

Addressing the inaugural programme, Kruse said, “The completion and inauguration of this community hall stands as a testament to our commitment to enhancing the quality of life for everyone in this locality.” She added that the project signifies progress, cooperation, and community development, expressing hope that the facility will serve as a place for celebration, unity, and the fostering of community spirit.

Kruse highlighted that the new car parking area, coupled with the community hall, addresses both social and practical needs by easing parking congestion and providing a safe and convenient space for residents and visitors. “The government has always believed that true development begins at the grassroot level and projects like our council hall are a reflection of that vision,” she said, assuring continued government support for initiatives that improve citizens’ lives.

Expressing gratitude to the land donors, KSCDL, contractors, local authorities, and council members, Kruse said, “I am confident that this hall will become the heart of numerous events, educational programs and social gatherings that strengthen community bonds.” She urged residents to use the facility responsibly and with pride, adding, “May this hall and its amenities foster unity, promote cultural and social activities, and serve as a hub for growth and collaboration for many years to come.”

According to KSCDL CEO Er. Kezha Theunuo, the construction of the Midland Community Building-cum-Parking Facility was sanctioned and tendered on March 31, 2022, with a project cost of Rs. 2.91 crore. The works included civil construction, site development, electrification, water supply, sanitary fittings, and a rainwater reservoir. The building has a total plinth area of 7,800 sq. ft., with a parking capacity for 12 cars. It houses a conference hall, two office rooms, a kitchen, and separate toilets for men and women.

Er. Theunuo informed that similar community buildings have been constructed in six other municipal wards under the Slum Area Re-development initiative. An agreement will be signed between KSCDL and the Midland Council for the operation and management of the new facility, with rental income shared for maintenance and upkeep.

The inaugural programme was chaired by Viphrezo Zao. Rev. Medoneiu Usou, Pastor of MBCK, offered the invocation. A welcome address was delivered by Keduozolie Nihu, Advisor of Midland Council, followed by a special number from the BKK Midland Baptist Church. The vote of thanks was proposed by Tsao Paphino, Vice Chairman of Midland Council.
