The Mokokchung District Disabled Association (MDDA) and Ozümi, in collaboration with Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM), and Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA), celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2025 under the theme “Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress.”

The program, held at the Indoor Multi Sports Complex, Mokokchung was chaired by Jemtila Jamir, and Temjen Longkumer, Pastor of Nukshiyim Baptist Church, gave the invocation. Short speeches were also delivered by Imtiyapang, Councillor, MMC, and Onenpong, Vice President of AKM, where both speakers encouraged persons with disabilities (PwDs) to achieve their goals and to focus on their abilities.

A special presentation was given by children with disabilities from Tiny Dot Learning Centre for Children with Disabilities under Grace Society, along with a musical piece performed by Takosangba, who is visually impaired. During the program, the Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority shared information about the Rights of PwDs Act 2016, highlighting that the Act upholds the right to equality and non-discrimination. The program also included a special prayer for PwDs led by Limasangwa, Coordinator of Media and Social Concern, ABAM.

The guest of honour, Imtimar Jamir, former Mokokchung Town Committee Member, delivered a speech in which he said that being disabled means being differently-abled, and that disability can result from genetic factors, birth, injuries, or accidents. He added that everyone has some form of disability and that no one can escape it. He stressed that every individual is equal, including persons with disabilities, and they should be treated accordingly.

Imojungla, proprietor of Ozumi Volleyball Association, delivered the vote of thanks, and Rev. Amongla B. Jamir, Assistant Pastor for Women at Mangkolemba Town Baptist Church, gave the benediction.
