Remaining posts to be carried forward as backlog

Mokokchung district has emerged as one of the districts recording a shortfall in male candidates qualifying for the written examination in the ongoing recruitment process for 1,176 constable posts under the Nagaland Police.

Of the 133 vacancies allotted to Mokokchung, including 118 male and 15 female posts, a total of 136 candidates have qualified for the written test. This includes 86 male and 50 female candidates. Interestingly, the number of male candidates qualifying is 32 fewer than the available male posts, placing Mokokchung among three districts where male qualifiers fell short of vacancies.

According to official figures, 2,056 candidates from Mokokchung participated in the recruitment process. Candidates were initially screened for educational qualification, Physical Standard Test and medical fitness, after which they were required to clear the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) to qualify for the written examination. The PET included a running race, pull ups, high jump and long jump, with prescribed benchmarks for male and female candidates.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Mokokchung, Vesupro Kezo, NPS, said that any unfilled vacancies after the recruitment drive would be carried forward as backlog for the next recruitment cycle and would not be diverted to other districts. Commenting on the outcome, he said the response from Mokokchung was not good and participation was low. He added that, except for Mon district, turnout across other districts was also below expectations.

Statewide, 5,841 male and 1,047 female candidates have qualified for the written test against 1,037 male and 139 female vacancies. While districts such as Wokha, Zunheboto and Mon recorded a large number of qualified candidates, Mokokchung, along with Tseminyu and Dimapur, reported fewer male qualifiers than vacancies.

In Tseminyu district, 42 vacancies were notified, including 37 for male and five for female candidates. A total of 81 candidates qualified for the written test, comprising 34 male and 47 female candidates. Tseminyu stood out for recording a higher number of female qualifiers than male, while also reporting a shortfall in male qualifiers.

Dimapur similarly recorded fewer male candidates qualifying for the written test, with 124 male and 43 female candidates qualifying against vacancies of 127 male and 17 female posts.

Mon district recorded the highest number of candidates qualifying for the written test, with 1,508 male and 204 female candidates for 166 vacancies, including 146 male and 20 female posts.

The written examination is scheduled to be held on January 20 from 10 am to 12 noon. In Mokokchung, the examination will be conducted at Queen Mary Higher Secondary School. Only candidates who cleared the Physical and Medical Standards and the Physical Efficiency Test have been called to appear for the written examination.
