The Rising People’s Party (RPP) has urged Army and Air Force authorities to “consider the life-threatening impact of sonic boom caused by jet fighters or possible controlled explosion of bombs/ammunitions,” following an incident on January 28, 2026, that rattled Dimapur town.

According to the RPP, the sonic boom “ripped through Dimapur town, rattling in particular a private hospital housing many critical patients – causing one of the patients to undergo a massive cardiac arrest.”

The party highlighted that “when the then Interlocutor RN Ravi declared that Naga peace talks had concluded, sonic boom became a regular occurrence in Dimapur area.” While noting that “whether this was a coincidence or an intimidatory tactic cannot be established,” the RPP emphasized that such events “certainly created fear psychosis amongst the population.”

In its statement, the RPP requested that “the defence authorities…clarify on the 28th January incident and ensure that such incidents are not repeated again.” The party also called upon the state government “to intervene in the matter” and suggested that it may “intercede with the higher authorities in ensuring that low fly overs in Dimapur vicinity is strictly prohibited or even banned due to risk factors related to the health of individuals especially patients and concerns over the structural integrity of buildings.”

The RPP further recommended that “the Nagaland Pollution Control Board should take cognizance of the stated matter as well,” highlighting that “the maximum permissible noise level in Indian cities as defined by the Central Pollution Control Board is 75 decibels (dB) in industrial areas,” whereas “sonic booms range between 110-120 dB.”
