The Naga People’s Front (NPF) on Friday welcomed recent political engagements between the Nagaland state government and the Government of India on key issues affecting the state.
In a press communique, the NPF expressed appreciation to its president and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) delegation for what it termed a “productive engagement” with the Centre. The party welcomed Dr Rio’s call for reviving the Indo-Naga political talks at the highest level and noted the Union Home Minister’s indication of renewed political-level engagement.
The NPF also acknowledged the chief minister’s efforts in raising Nagaland’s financial concerns, including the demand for restoring the earlier financial arrangement under the 16-Point Agreement. It further welcomed initiatives seeking relaxation of the Protected Area Permit (PAP) regime and a review of the revised Free Movement Regime (FMR) guidelines.
“The NPF believes such initiatives demonstrate responsible leadership, crucial for safeguarding Naga rights and identity,” the party said.

“We hope the Government of India’s assurances lead to tangible actions, addressing the state’s financial challenges and promoting the welfare of the Naga people,” it added.
The party also described February 5, 2026, as a “red-letter day” in Nagaland’s history, following the signing of the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority agreement by the NPF-led PDA government. The NPF said the agreement marked a major milestone for the state.
