Political pressure mounted on the State government over the adhoc teachers’ regularization issue on Saturday, with the Rising People’s Party (RPP) backing the ongoing ANATG-2015 protest and accusing the government of “backtrack[ing] on its commitment to regularize the adhoc teachers” and “betrayal of the NPF-BJP coalition government.”
In a press release issued on February 7, the party said that “according to ANATG-2015, after sustained protests in 2018 and 2022, the state government set up a High-Powered Committee (HPC) which clearly stipulated that the government would regularize the services of the group within a stipulated time.”
While stating that it will “not go into the merits and demerits of the issue,” the RPP maintained that “what is important is that the state government has backtracked on its commitment,” asserting that ANATG-2015 is “completely justified in undertaking the present stir.”
Calling for urgent action, the party urged the government to “treat the issue seriously” and said “the government should fulfil its own commitment without delay and stop indulging in further delay tactics.” It added that “an important issue such as this involving the future and livelihoods of thousands of teachers and students cannot be allowed to drag on for years,” describing “the insensitivity and misplaced priorities of this government” as “utterly deplorable.”
The RPP further stated that “every sensible person is aghast that because of the insensitivity of the government the poor teachers are been made to suffer for decades,” adding that while the government “talks about good governance,” it “should realize that good governance begins only when it starts treating its employees with dignity and respect.”
Warning against escalation, the party said “in democratic protests, unions and entities have the right to gather, raise slogans and submit memorandums,” and that “these activities should not be construed as anti-government nor should the authorities take umbrage.” It also called on “elites in positions of power” to “stop this differential treatment of the voiceless minority whose only fault is to fight for their own rights and dignity.”
