The Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Kobulong Block, Mokokchung, conducted a capacity building programme on “Scientific feeding management in piggery” at Longjang village on February 17. The programme was organised to enhance the knowledge and practical skills of women groups engaged in pig farming.

The session was led by Dr Sarendi, Assistant Chief Technical Officer (Veterinary) at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, who explained the gradual shift in pig rearing practices from traditional free range systems to organised intensive rearing. He also highlighted how feeding practices have evolved alongside these changes.

During the programme, the resource person emphasised practical and cost effective feeding strategies, including the importance of balanced nutrition, various feed ingredients and their nutritive value. He elaborated on the use of mineral mixtures and vitamin supplementation, feeding management during pregnancy and lactation, and methods to reduce feed wastage while improving feed conversion ratio. The timely administration of the correct dose of de wormer was also stressed.

At the conclusion of the programme, mineral mixtures and de wormers were distributed by ATMA, Kobulong Block. A total of 10 farmers from Temiem FIG and Tongtepratep CIG participated, along with ATMA staff and the resource person.
