The new school building of Government Middle School Gidemi in Phek district was inaugurated on February 19 by Dr Kevizakie Rio, Joint Mission Director, Samagra Shiksha Nagaland, who attended the programme as the special guest.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Rio appreciated the Gidemi village community for its commitment to providing quality education for children. He said the true strength of any community lies in its dedication to education and informed the villagers about the norms for various school categories under the Department of School Education, based on minimum student enrolment.

He described education as the backbone of progress and a key driver of empowerment across all areas of development. Urging the community to continue embracing education, Dr. Rio recalled how education has helped transform society from backwardness towards progress.

He also assured the villagers that the concerns raised by village leaders would be looked into, including the need for additional teachers, enrolment of students in Classes 6 to 8 due to the village’s remoteness, and strengthening of school infrastructure.

Earlier, Niezo D Vadeo, Chairman of the School Management Committee, Government Middle School Gidemi, highlighted the difficulties faced by parents in sending children to nearby towns for education.

The programme was chaired by Gidemi Village Council chairman Nuzota Tetseo, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Vekhoyi Lohe, VDB Secretary. Dr Rio was accompanied by Ketshukietuo Dzuvichu, PRO to the Advisor for School Education and SCERT, and Kelhikha Kenye, Deputy Mission Director, Samagra Shiksha Nagaland.
