A one-day training programme on cultivation practices of citronella and lemongrass was conducted at Kangstung village under Tuli sub-division in Mokokchung district on February 21, 2026. The programme was held at the Kangstung Students’ Library Hall.

The training was organised under the TRIBES initiative, supported by NABARD and implemented by the Community Educational Centre Society (CECS).
Delivering the introductory address, Subonenba Longkumer, Director of CECS, highlighted the objectives of the TRIBES project supported by NABARD and emphasised the importance of climate-resilient aromatic crops such as citronella and lemongrass in strengthening rural livelihoods. He encouraged farmers to adopt improved cultivation practices and assured continued technical and institutional support under the project.
Gobin Chauhan of Bokajan in Assam, a progressive farmer with over 30 years of experience in citronella cultivation, served as the resource person. Drawing from his field experience, he shared insights on land preparation, selection of planting materials, spacing, nutrient management, crop maintenance, harvesting techniques and oil extraction processes. He also spoke on maintaining crop quality, understanding market demand and sustaining productivity.
As part of the programme, a field visit was conducted to a farmer’s lemongrass plot in Kangstung village, where participants observed crop growth, discussed plant health, spacing and field maintenance, and clarified practical doubts through on-site interaction.
The programme concluded with an expression of appreciation to the resource person and acknowledgement of the active participation of farmers. A total of 72 farmers from Kangstung, Kangtsungyimsen and Aopenzu attended the training.
