DDMA meeting reviews mudslide, drainage and other rain-related risks in town
The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Mokokchung, has directed ward representatives to assess vulnerable and disaster-prone areas within their respective jurisdictions as the district braces for possible rain-related hazards during the ongoing monsoon season, an update from the DPRO Mokokchung stated.
Deputy Commissioner and DDMA chairman Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, convened an emergency coordination meeting with stakeholders at the DC’s Conference Hall on August 5 to review preparedness and strengthen preventive measures against potential natural calamities and other disasters.
The meeting discussed vulnerabilities within Mokokchung town, particularly areas prone to mudslides, drainage-related problems and other rain-induced hazards.
Stakeholders deliberated on mitigation and preventive measures aimed at reducing risks and protecting lives and property, according to the report.

As part of the preparedness exercise, ward representatives were tasked with assessing vulnerable areas in their respective jurisdictions and identifying locations requiring immediate attention. They were directed to report their findings for necessary intervention by the concerned authorities.
The meeting emphasised proactive preparedness, early identification of vulnerable locations, coordination among stakeholders and prompt action to minimise avoidable loss of life and property.
