The foundation stone for the “Development of Traditional Homestay & Inauguration of Angami Kitho and Mini Museum” was laid at D. Khel, Kohima Village on Tuesday, coinciding with the celebration of Sekrenyi, the premier festival of the Angami community.

Laying the foundation stone, Minister for NPWD (R&B), G. Kaito Aye described the initiative as a step that would strengthen economic prospects while promoting hospitality and cultural exchange. He thanked domestic and international visitors for witnessing and celebrating the rich culture and traditions of the people.
Stating that times have changed with the advent of Christianity and education, he said Nagas have come a long way from earlier practices and should be thankful for the peace being experienced today. However, he observed that though Nagas may not be physically divided, “mental divisions still exist” and called for unity, mutual support and collective responsibility.
Highlighting the importance of preserving language, identity and cultural heritage, he remarked that festivals should promote forgiveness, reconciliation and peace, adding that without peace, celebration cannot truly exist. He stressed that progress begins at the village level.
Presenting the project overview, Kevi Khezhie, Proprietor, said the objective is to create a space “where art meets tradition,” combining modern amenities such as homestays, restaurants, recreational park and social event venues with preservation of traditional practices.
The project envisions eco-friendly accommodation through aesthetic cabins set within the natural landscape, hands-on farming experiences including paddy cultivation, traditional Naga-style cooking using organic produce, and promotion of art and local artisans. He acknowledged the Planning Department for supporting the initiative under the innovation program.
Speaking on the significance of Sekrenyi, Pele Khezhie, President, Northern Angami Public Organization, described it as a festival of purification, renewal and unity, symbolizing pride and commitment to preserving traditions.
