Nagaland made significant strides in sustainable development, with Mokokchung, Kohima, and Dimapur ranking among the top ten districts in the North East according to the NER SDG District Index 2023–24, Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang said at the Nagaland SDG Action Awards 2025 held at the Capital Convention Centre, Kohima, on 13 March 2026.
Nine districts of the state were placed in the ‘Front Runner’ category, marking a significant improvement from the 2021–22 baseline, while three districts emerged as the fastest movers, showing maximum gains in SDG performance.
Speaking at the event, Zeliang said platforms like the SDG Awards bring together all departments to reflect, recognize achievements, and set a roadmap for “Development for all-Leaving No One Behind.” He emphasized the need for continued collaboration, improved data systems, and actionable district-level strategies to accelerate progress toward the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, laying the foundation for Viksit Nagaland 2047.
The Deputy Chief Minister presented the Nagaland SDG Action Awards 2025, mementoes, certificates, and a cash prize of Rs 50,000 each to:
• Pinnacle Skill – Economic Sustainability
• Good Samaritan Women Society – Social Development
• MOBUST Team Nagaland (Youth Net) – Environmental Sustainability
Development Commissioner Temsunaro Aier highlighted the government’s efforts to align SDGs with state priorities and urged departments to maintain high-quality data and updated SDG portals to track progress and inform planning.
UNDP North East Regional Head John Borgoyary noted the importance of local-level implementation and emphasized that while Nagaland’s achievements are commendable, attention is still needed for districts that are lagging behind.
The day-long consultation was attended by administrative and departmental heads, SDG nodal officers, deputy commissioners, representatives from all 17 districts, Minister of Environment, Forest & Climate Change CL John, and MLA Dr Tseilhoutuo Rhutso.
