Meeting in Kohima as Congress targets a seat it hasn’t held in decades
The Congress party is expected to make its final call soon for the 28 Koridang Assembly by-election scheduled for 9 April. Sources said a meeting is currently underway in Kohima to finalise the selection.
“The survey has been done, and we have sent the list of possible candidates to another committee to make their final decision,” a party official told MT.

Koridang has long been a constituency without a Congress foothold. However, the party has recently activated five to six local units and is closely monitoring activities at the constituency level. Party officials said that daily monitoring and strategy sessions are underway to strengthen its presence.
“The functionary has been reactivated at a fast pace,” the official added.
Acknowledging the challenge of contesting a seat dominated by the ruling NPF-BJP, the party expressed confidence that a few applicants have come forward for the Congress ticket and that the party functionary has been “reactivated in a fast pace”.
