The District Magistrate of Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, has imposed a curfew in the jurisdiction of Chungtia Village following apprehensions of potential disturbances that could threaten public peace and safety in the area.
The order, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, cites concerns over the prevailing law and order situation in Chungtia Village, located under Opangkong EAC Circle. The curfew comes in view of the upcoming by-election for the 28-Koridang Assembly Constituency and aims to prevent any incident that could endanger human life or property.
Under the curfew: Assembly of five or more persons is strictly prohibited.
Curfew hours are from 6:00 PM to 5:00 AM
Exemptions include: Police, armed forces, and other security personnel on duty. Magistrates and government officials performing official duties. Medical personnel, ambulances, and other emergency services. Individuals engaged in emergency or essential services, including election duty.
The order is effective immediately and will remain in force until further notice. Violation of the curfew may lead to prosecution under Section 223 of BNSS, 2023.
