The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has issued a 12-hour ultimatum demanding that those allegedly involved in the killing of four Naga Army personnel at Hongbei on March 28 be handed over.
Following a meeting of Tangkhul civil organisations under its aegis, the apex body directed that the suspects be produced before it in good health. The TNL warned that failure to comply would lead to non-cooperation from the Tangkhul community with the Wung Tangkhul Region.

The ultimatum was issued amid growing reactions from civil society organisations following the incident, which has drawn widespread concern and condemnation.
Meanwhile, the Kamjong Student Union has announced a total shutdown across Kamjong headquarters on March 31 from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The student body described the shutdown as a mark of respect for the deceased and expressed solidarity with the bereaved families. Essential services such as medical care, water supply, and electricity have been exempted.
The Naga Peoples’ Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) and the Naga Women’s Union (NWU) have condemned the killings, describing the incident as tragic and a matter of serious concern. In its statement, the NPMHR expressed anguish over the loss of lives and termed fratricide a social disgrace, while calling for restraint and unity within the community.
Meanwhile, in response to the incident and the lack of clarity, the Tangkhul Naga Mass Movement has imposed a total shutdown at Ukhrul headquarters on Monday. The shutdown permits essential services, including hospitals and board examinations, to continue.
Meanwhile, the Wung Tangkhul Region (WTR) administration has urged the government to clarify the circumstances surrounding the killings and demanded that those responsible be brought to justice with the highest punishment. It further stated that there has been no previous communication or correspondence regarding the incident with the Wung Tangkhul Region Administration, raising concerns about transparency.
The WTR emphasized the need for unity among the Tangkhul community and called the ambush a direct challenge to its jurisdiction and authority.
“Tangkhuls cannot be divided,” the statement read, adding that any internal divisions must be addressed by the highest authorities of the Naga nation.
