The Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Mokokchung, has notified that campaigning for the ensuing by-election to 28-Koridang (ST) Assembly Constituency will conclude at 4:00 PM on April 7, in accordance with Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
In an order issued on April 4, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Ajit Kumar Verma stated that a complete prohibition on public meetings, rallies, and processions will come into effect during the last forty-eight hours preceding the close of poll.
The order specified that after 4:00 PM on April 7, no person shall “convene, hold, attend, join, or address any public meeting or procession” related to the by-election. It further prohibited the public display of election material through cinematograph, television, or similar means, as well as the propagation of election matter through “any musical concert, theatrical performance, or any other entertainment or amusement” intended to attract public attention.
The district administration also directed that political functionaries, party workers, and other individuals brought from outside the constituency, who are not registered electors of 28-Koridang, must leave the constituency after the campaign period ends. The order noted that their continued presence may affect the conduct of a free, fair, and peaceful election.
