Major Toshikaba (Retd) formally declared his candidature for the April 9 by-election to the 28 Koridang Assembly Constituency from his residence in Chungtia village on April 4, in the presence of supporters and well-wishers.
Supporters from across the constituency, including Mokokchung, Kohima and Dimapur, attended the programme, along with local residents. Slogans in support of the candidate were raised during the event.
When asked about their support, attendees described him as a “visionary leader” and expressed confidence in his candidature.
The declaration comes amid a multi-cornered contest, with three candidates from Chungtia village alone in the fray. While Major Toshikaba and Imtiwapang are contesting as independent candidates, Chalukumba Ao is representing the Indian National Congress.
With polling scheduled for April 9, political activity in the constituency has intensified in recent days.
