The Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) has strongly condemned the attempted murder of the President of the Western Chakhesang Youth Organization (WCYO), alleging that two of the perpetrators involved in the May 2 assault were already out on bail in a similar case, raising serious concerns over public safety and the handling of repeat offenders.
In a statement issued by CYF President Kevesa Khamo and General Secretary Nokho Nyekha, the organisation described the assault as a brutal attack and questioned how individuals previously accused in a similar case were able to allegedly commit another serious crime while on bail.
“The CYF questions the safety of the citizens when criminals easily seem to get bail, and are left free to further commit crimes as they so wish,” the statement said.
The Front said the incident has intensified concerns not only over the security of community leaders but also the safety of ordinary citizens, particularly when accused persons in serious cases are allegedly able to reoffend.
On May 7, CYF representatives met the Commissioner of Police (CP) and other concerned officials to express deep concern over the broader law-and-order implications of the case. According to the Front, the Commissioner assured them that the accused would be booked under the highest sections of the law.
While expressing gratitude to law enforcement agencies for the prompt arrest of one accused, CYF also acknowledged the investigating agency for its swift response. However, it noted that other accused persons remain absconding.

The organisation appealed to citizens to assist law enforcement agencies in locating and arresting the remaining accused at the earliest, while warning against any attempt to shelter or aid those involved.
The CYF further issued a stern warning to individuals or groups attempting to facilitate bail for the accused, stating that such actions would be viewed seriously, including under Naga customary law if required.
Describing the attack as more than an assault on an individual, the Front stated that the attempted murder of a CYF unit member represented an attack on the wider Chakhesang youth community.
“The murder attempt on one of the unit member of the CYF is an attack on the entire Chakhesang youths,” it stated.
