The Western Chakhesang Youth Organisation (WCYO) has strongly condemned the physical assault on its president and the vandalism of his vehicle during an incident that allegedly took place on the night of May 2 at Naga United Village, Chumoukedima.

In a statement issued through its Media Cell, the organisation said the incident occurred between 8:30 pm and 9:00 pm when its president was reportedly obstructed by a group of individuals, physically assaulted, and his vehicle damaged.

Calling the incident “wholly unacceptable,” the WCYO stated that resorting to violence cannot be justified under any circumstance.

“Such conduct is deemed wholly unacceptable and recourse to violence is unjustifiable. It not only contravenes the principles of unity but also instills fear within society,” the organisation stated.

It further said that the use of physical force along with vandalism of private property reflects “a level of aggression and incivility that has no place in a civilized society.”

The organisation has called upon law enforcement authorities to carry out a prompt and thorough investigation into the matter using all available evidence and ensure that those responsible are held accountable under the law.

The WCYO also reaffirmed its stand against violence and stressed the need for justice in the matter.
