The 2nd Quarter National Lok Adalat conducted across Nagaland on May 9 disposed of 220 out of 402 cases taken up for settlement, with a total settlement amount of Rs 3,66,21,476.

Organised under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority, the National Lok Adalat was held through 11 benches set up at district headquarters under various District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs). The overall disposal rate recorded during the Lok Adalat stood at around 54 per cent.
Cases taken up included pre-litigation matters such as bank recovery, loan recovery and telephone bill disputes, along with pending criminal compoundable offences, MACT and civil cases.
In Mokokchung, 10 pre-litigation bank recovery cases were taken up, of which eight were disposed of with a settlement amount of Rs 16.44 lakh. Peren DLSA disposed of 24 out of 50 bank recovery cases, settling Rs 20.44 lakh.
Kohima DLSA took up 156 cases, including 123 pre-litigation matters, and disposed of 23 cases with settlements amounting to Rs 17.22 lakh. Addressing the inaugural session, Principal District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson KDLSA Mezivolu T Therieh appreciated the efforts of officials in making Lok Adalat functional.
Dimapur DLSA recorded one of the highest settlement amounts, disposing of 102 cases involving bank recovery, BSNL disputes and MACT claims worth Rs 99.69 lakh.
Other districts including Mon, Tuensang, Wokha, Phek, Kiphire, Zunheboto and Longleng also conducted Lok Adalats, disposing of several pre-litigation and pending cases through amicable settlements.
Among the districts, Longleng recorded settlements amounting to Rs 83.18 lakh, while Phek settled cases worth Rs 49.55 lakh and Mon Rs 20.57 lakh. Kiphire disposed of 11 bank recovery cases worth Rs 17.31 lakh, while Zunheboto settled seven cases amounting to Rs 23.67 lakh.
Officials said the Lok Adalat aimed at promoting speedy, amicable and cost-effective dispute resolution through mutual settlement between parties.
