The Gaon Buras (GBs) of Changchor Village have submitted a representation to the Deputy Commissioner of Kiphire through the EAC, Amahator, regarding the selection process for the post of Head GB of the village.

According to the representation, the village GBs held a meeting on September 27, 2025, during which they unanimously selected Tokhui Jingrü as the new Head GB in accordance with Sangtam customary practices and traditions.

The GBs stated that the decision was taken collectively and the selected name was subsequently submitted to the district administration for approval and necessary action.

However, the village elders expressed concern over an office order issued on May 5, 2026, regarding the conduct of an election for the post through a “one household, one vote” system.

Maintaining that the selection of a Head GB has traditionally been carried out according to Sangtam customary laws and practices, the GBs appealed to the competent authority to respect and uphold customary traditions protected under Article 371(A) of the Constitution.

They further urged the authorities to reconsider the order “in the interest of peace, unity, and preservation of tribal customs.”

The representation was signed by Lipongse GB, Achumba T GB, Achumba K GB, Watheo GB, Tsipio GB, Tokhui GB, Tsitose GB and Tsatose GB.
