EMIS, NECTAR And PM POSHAN among key areas reviewed

A high-level review meeting on the progress and performance of the School Education Department was held at the Naga Bhavan Conference Hall, Lok Bhavan, Kohima, on May 18, 2026. The meeting was chaired by Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav.

Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav chairs a high-level review meeting on the School Education Department at Naga Bhavan Conference Hall, Kohima, on May 18, where officials discussed EMIS, NECTAR, PM POSHAN and other initiatives aimed at strengthening education in the state.

The review focused on the present status of school education in the state, including governance structures, student enrolment trends, teacher strength and initiatives aimed at improving learning outcomes and strengthening the education system.

Officials of the department presented an overview of the education landscape in Nagaland, highlighting the number of schools, teachers and students across government and private institutions. The meeting also reviewed efforts to strengthen data-driven governance through the Education Management Information System (EMIS) to improve monitoring and planning in the education sector.

Key initiatives undertaken by the Department of School Education were discussed, including the distribution of free textbooks and learning materials to students in government schools, uniforms and notebooks under elementary education programmes and implementation of the PM POSHAN scheme to support student nutrition and school attendance. The meeting further reviewed the progress of the Nagaland Education Project, The Lighthouse (NECTAR), a World Bank-supported initiative aimed at strengthening school governance, enhancing teacher professional development, improving digital learning systems and promoting community participation in education.

Officials also highlighted capacity-building programmes for teachers and school leaders, including professional learning communities and digital platforms designed to improve teaching practices and school leadership.

During the meeting, the Governor stressed the importance of improving learning outcomes, strengthening school governance and ensuring effective implementation of educational initiatives across the state. He encouraged continued efforts to improve the quality of education and ensure government schemes reach students effectively.

Senior officials from the Directorate of School Education, Nagaland Board of School Education, State Council of Educational Research and Training, Samagra Shiksha and NECTAR attended the meeting and presented updates on various programmes and reform initiatives.

The meeting reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring quality, inclusive and accessible education for students across Nagaland.
