Dimapur Police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by a senior officer to investigate a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at the Dimapur Women Police Station.
According to a press note issued by police on Wednesday, the case was registered following an FIR lodged on May 25 by the guardians of a minor victim.
Police said two persons arrested in connection with the case—O Watimeren Jamir (43) of Lengrijan village, Dimapur, and Tsuktimongba Ao (37) of Razaphe Industrial village, Dimapur—were produced before the court and remanded to police custody for further interrogation.
The police stated that investigation into the case is in progress and assured that “the chargesheet will be filed without undue delay.”
Authorities have also appealed to the public and media organisations to refrain from disclosing any information that may reveal the identity of the minor victim, stating that such disclosure is punishable under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the POCSO Act, and the Juvenile Justice Act.
NSWON condemns
The National Socialist Women’s Organisation of Nagalim (NSWON) has expressed shock and outrage over the alleged sexual assault.
In a statement issued by the organization, NSWON described the incident as “despicable and unforgivable,” stating that such crimes have no place in society.
“As Nagas who have long professed Christian values, we will not tolerate predators hiding among us. Our organisation and the wider Naga community stand united in protecting our children and vulnerable members from sexual violence,” the statement read.
NSWON strongly condemned crimes against women and children and urged the authorities to conduct a prompt investigation and ensure prosecution of the accused “to the fullest extent of the law,” without any consideration of background or status.
The organisation also extended sympathy and support to the victim and her family, stating that it stands with them during what it described as a deeply painful time.
It further said it would work with community leaders, elders, and law enforcement agencies to prevent such incidents in the future. The statement was issued by the Chairperson of NSWON
