Seeking to reduce Nagaland’s dependence on construction materials sourced from outside the state, two brothers from Mokokchung have established the district’s first paver block and tiles manufacturing unit at Tzusapang Sector under Mokokchung Village.

The Lungsep Paver Block & Tiles Factory, operated by Mongtemsu Imchen and Imlijong Imchen, was inaugurated on June 13 by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Mokokchung, Atsungba Walling.

The entrepreneurs said the venture was born out of the challenges faced by contractors, institutions and individuals who have long relied on construction materials transported from other states, often resulting in high transportation costs, supply delays and increased project expenses.

Recognizing the availability of raw materials within the state, the brothers decided to establish a local manufacturing unit aimed at providing an alternative source of construction materials while contributing to Nagaland’s economy and infrastructure development.

Speaking at the inaugural program, Walling commended the brothers for venturing into manufacturing and entrepreneurship, noting that the location of the factory offered good accessibility and access to locally available raw materials.

He said successful businesses require a combination of innovative ideas, trust and perseverance, while emphasizing the importance of maintaining quality standards.

“Customers are the kings,” Walling said, urging the entrepreneurs not to compromise on quality in pursuit of higher profits.

He also encouraged community members to support the enterprise and expressed hope that it would grow into a larger manufacturing unit capable of representing the state through quality products.

Mokokchung Village Council chairman Mapuyanger Longkumer described the initiative as a forward-looking effort that converts locally available raw materials into finished products, reducing dependence on materials imported from outside the state.

The partners said their long-term vision extends beyond paver blocks and tiles. They plan to expand into additional concrete products to cater to the growing infrastructure needs of Nagaland and the wider Northeast region.

“We aim to contribute by supplying durable and locally manufactured construction materials that will help build stronger roads, better public spaces, and more resilient communities,” they stated.

The factory is the first paver block and tiles manufacturing unit in Mokokchung and represents a rare local manufacturing initiative in a sector largely dependent on supplies brought in from outside the state.
