The United Sangtam Region of NSCN-IM has condemned the alleged rape of an 82-year-old woman in Kiphire district and called for a swift, impartial and transparent investigation into the case.

In a statement, the organisation alleged that the crime was committed on June 17 by Heluikie Nsanglung alias Amos, an Armed Branch Constable of DEF Kiphire.

Describing the incident as a “horrific and inhumane act,” the organisation said the alleged offence represented a grave violation of human dignity and a betrayal of the trust placed in law enforcement agencies.

“No individual, regardless of position or authority, is above the law,” the statement said.

The organisation demanded that the authorities ensure a fair investigation and take strict legal action against the accused if found guilty. It also called for measures to safeguard the dignity, safety and well-being of the victim.

The United Sangtam Region further stated that the incident highlighted the need for accountability, stronger safeguards and reforms to prevent abuse of power.

Expressing solidarity with the victim and her family, the organisation urged the authorities to ensure that justice is delivered without delay.

“Violence against women, especially the elderly and vulnerable, has no place in a civilized society,” it stated, adding that such acts must be condemned in the strongest terms.

The allegations made by the organisation could not be independently verified at the time of filing this report.
