A man has been arrested in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a minor boy in Phek district, police said on Tuesday.
According to the Media Cell of Phek Police, a written First Information Report (FIR) was received on July 1 alleging that a minor boy had been sexually assaulted by an accused person. Following the complaint, Phek Women Police Station registered Phek Women PS Case No. 0005/26 under Sections 4, 5(1)(m), 6, 8, 10 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Police said a special investigation team was immediately constituted, and the accused was apprehended on the same day. After completion of the necessary legal formalities, the accused was remanded to judicial custody.
The victim is currently stable and is receiving due care and protection, police added.
Phek Police appealed to the public to respect the privacy of the child and refrain from sharing any information that could lead to the victim’s identification. It warned that disclosing the identity of a child victim is punishable under Section 72 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Section 23 of the POCSO Act and Section 74 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.
Assuring that every effort is being made to complete the investigation promptly, Phek Police called on citizens to help create a safe and protective environment for children.
