Speaking at the programme, ATMA Deputy Project Director Rongsennungla commended tomato farmers for their contribution to tomato production in the district and the state. She encouraged them to increase production while addressing post-harvest losses, which she said account for about 20 to 25 per cent of the total harvest.

“Value addition of tomato is the best option” to reduce such losses, she said, highlighting products such as dried tomatoes, puree, powder, ketchup and sauces. She urged participants to apply the knowledge gained during the training and explore collaborations that could make tomato cultivation more profitable.

Imdongyangla, ACFI, NSRLM, encouraged participants, particularly women, to take up tomato value addition and assured financial support through loans for those interested in entrepreneurship.

Resource person Khekali Sema, ACTO (Horticulture), KVK Mokokchung, demonstrated tomato sorting, grading and the preparation of ketchup and sauce. Extension folders and inputs for making ketchup were distributed to participants.
