The Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO) will hold a peaceful rally at Jharnapani (New Medziphema) on July 17 to protest what it described as the state’s failure to acknowledge traditional landowners and its alleged inaction in addressing the ongoing issue involving Maova Village.

According to a press release issued by CPO General Secretary Nilizolie Meyase, the rally will begin at 10 am.

The organisation said the protest is intended to express its “strong displeasure” over the non-recognition of traditional landowners and what it termed the state government’s “lackadaisical attitude” in resolving the matter with Maova Village.

The CPO also said the rally is aimed at reiterating to Maova Village that it remains firm in its position as the traditional landowner and would not compromise on what it described as its ancestral rights.

Following a brief program at the Peren-NU Medziphema Campus road junction, participants will march to the Office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Medziphema, where the organisation will submit a memorandum to the government.

The CPO has appealed to tribal bodies and members of the public to participate in the peaceful rally in support of what it described as the protection of Naga ancestral rights.
