The first edition of the 35+ MFL High School Futsal Tournament got underway at Mojabi Futsal Turf on Wednesday, July 22 with 27 teams competing in the tournament.
The opening ceremony was graced by Senior Superintendent of Police, Mokokchung, Vesupra Kezo, NPS, as the special guest.
The programme was chaired by Aoluin, while Imliyapang invoked God’s blessings. Convenor of 35+ MFL, Aongsen, delivered the welcome address.
Addressing the participants, Kezo encouraged the young players to make the most of the platform and strive to master the game of football. Referring to the recently concluded FIFA World Cup, he highlighted the performances of young players such as Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsí as examples of what dedication and hard work can achieve.
He urged the participants to take sports seriously, maintain discipline and follow a healthy diet to remain fit. “Every team plays to win, but the most important thing is to improve your skills, fitness and game intelligence, and become a better player,” he said.
The organisers informed that registration for the tournament is free. The competition offers cash prizes and certificates for the champions and runners-up, besides individual awards.
The tournament, which aims to nurture football talent from a young age, will conclude on July 24.
