Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav inaugurated the Academic Staff College and new units in Naturopathy, Physiotherapy and Medical Laboratory Science/Pathology at International University, Nagaland, 6th Mile, Chümoukedima, on Saturday.
Addressing the gathering, Yadav said the quality of a university depends largely on the quality of its faculty. He described the Academic Staff College as a platform for lifelong learning and pedagogical research, stressing that investment in teachers has a multiplier effect by benefiting students and society.
He said the new health science units would strengthen preventive healthcare by integrating Naturopathy and Physiotherapy with modern Medical Laboratory Science. According to Yadav, the facilities could serve both academic purposes and the healthcare needs of surrounding communities.
The Governor emphasised that excellence in education was not confined to metropolitan centres and could flourish in the Northeast. He urged students to become “job-givers rather than job-seekers” and encouraged them to develop entrepreneurial skills and use their education to address local challenges.
Yadav also called upon faculty members to use the Academic Staff College to promote inquiry, ethics and empathy beyond rote learning.
Advisor for Law and Justice, Land Revenue, T.N. Mannen, said the facilities would enable educators to update their knowledge and teaching skills through orientation and continuous learning programmes. He urged faculty and students to make full use of the facilities for personal growth and regional development.
The Governor also released university publications during the programme. Registrar Dr Roopam Bachhil delivered the welcome address, while speakers included Prof Zavise Rume, Dr Utkarsh Sharma and Prof Dr Satya Lakshmi.
