The Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO) Technical Committee has urged the Kohima Deputy Commissioner to take immediate remedial measures along NH-29 at Kisama, citing recurring mudslides and subsidence of the road surface at a vulnerable stretch of the highway.
In a representation submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, SAPO called for an immediate on-the-spot inspection of the affected section and urgent restoration measures, stating that the recurring deterioration has disrupted vehicular movement and raised concerns over the safety of commuters.
The organisation has also sought necessary directions to the concerned agencies, including the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and the Public Works Department, for both immediate repairs and long-term mitigation measures.
Among its key demands, SAPO has urged the administration to expedite the repair and operationalisation of an alternative route to Kisama and facilitate its use for commuter traffic while the affected section of NH-29 remains vulnerable.
It has further called for traffic regulation on the affected stretch, particularly during peak hours, with measures to manage heavy vehicles and minimise further damage while permanent restoration works are undertaken.
SAPO has also sought closer coordination with the Phesama Village Council, citing the importance of local knowledge and community cooperation in assessing ground conditions and implementing remedial measures.
The organisation said the highway’s strategic importance as a major transportation link makes prompt intervention necessary in the interest of public safety and convenience.
The representation was signed by Er Tepul Hopovi, President, SAPO, and Kevipopi Ltu, General Secretary of the SAPO Technical Committee.
The representation was also copied to the Executive Director, NHIDCL Headquarters, Nagaland, Kohima, and the Chairman of the Phesama Village Council.
