Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav has called for collective efforts to build a peaceful, progressive and prosperous Nagaland, stressing the need to create opportunities for youth, empower women, protect the environment and ensure that development reaches every section of society.
In his address to the people of Nagaland on the eve of India’s 80th Independence Day, Yadav paid tribute to freedom fighters, visionaries and patriots whose sacrifices secured the country’s freedom and laid the foundation of its democratic institutions.
He said Independence Day was not only an occasion for celebration but also a time for reflection and renewal of commitment to the constitutional values of justice, equality and democracy.
Highlighting India’s progress over eight decades, the Governor said the country had made significant advances in agriculture, industry, science and technology, space, education and healthcare. He said the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 was aimed at building a prosperous, inclusive, innovative and sustainable nation.
Yadav said Nagaland’s youth, women, farmers, entrepreneurs, artisans, public servants and community leaders were contributing to the State’s development. He highlighted the importance of education, skill development, entrepreneurship, sports and innovation in enabling young people to realise their potential.
He also emphasised the contribution of women and farmers, calling for greater support for agricultural productivity, sustainable farming and market opportunities.
The Governor said infrastructure, digital connectivity, healthcare and social welfare remained crucial to improving people’s quality of life, while challenges including unemployment, substance abuse, environmental degradation and social divisions required collective action.
He called for unity beyond differences of tribe, region, language, religion and political affiliation, saying, “The strength of our democracy lies in our diversity and our progress depends upon our unity.”
Yadav also acknowledged the contributions of security forces, police personnel, healthcare workers, teachers, civil servants and other frontline workers.
He urged citizens to preserve Nagaland’s cultural identity while embracing opportunities in a changing world and called for renewed commitment to nation-building, rule of law and inclusive development.
