Balidan Diwas 2026 was observed at the Multi-Utility Hall of the Gorkha Public Panchayat Complex, Chandmari, Kohima, on Monday evening to honour the supreme sacrifices of Saheed Major Durga Malla and Saheed Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse.
The programme was organised by the Gorkha Public Panchayat Kohima in association with Gorkha Nagas, clubs and Jatiya Sansthas.
Addressing the gathering as chief guest, Deputy Commissioner Kohima B. Henok Buchem said Martyrs’ Day was “not merely an occasion for remembrance” but also a time for reflection, gratitude and renewed commitment to the values for which the martyrs sacrificed their lives.
He highlighted the Gorkha community’s tradition of courage, discipline, loyalty and service, and acknowledged its contributions to the defence and security of the country and to Nagaland’s social, cultural and economic life.
Buchem urged the younger generation to uphold discipline, integrity, compassion and courage, and said the strongest tribute to martyrs was to build a peaceful, responsible, inclusive and just society.
Guest of honour Bharati Chinhal and Neisielie Kenguruse, father of late Captain Kenguruse, also addressed the gathering.
The programme included Deep Prajwalan, Shradhanjali, a welcome song by children of the GPPK Summer Camp 2026 and a special musical presentation.
