Party demands immediate arrest of perpetrators, says attack raises questions over security on IT Road
The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has demanded increased security for Naga civilians in Manipur and immediate action against those responsible for the killing of five Naga civilians in an ambush along the Imphal-Tamenglong Road in Kangpokpi district on August 27.
In a statement issued on Friday, the NPF said the five victims, all from the Liangmai Naga community, were unarmed civilians when they were ambushed at around 8:30 a.m. between Makui Ashang and Thanamba Naga village.

The party described the incident as a “brutal ambush and cold-blooded killing” and condemned what it called an attack on innocent civilians.
The NPF said the incident had raised questions over the safety and security of civilians travelling along the IT Road, which it described as a vital lifeline road.
The party also recalled the reported abduction and killing of six Nagas on May 13, 2026, saying justice was still awaited in that case.
“Such repeated attacks and senseless killing of innocent public are highly condemnable and inhumane,” the NPF said, adding that violence against civilians could further affect efforts towards peace and normalcy in the region.
The party urged the Governments of Manipur and India to strengthen security measures, particularly along vulnerable stretches inhabited by Nagas.
The NPF also demanded that those responsible for the August 27 attack be identified, arrested and prosecuted according to law without delay.
The party said it sought safety and security for Nagas “wherever they reside” and conveyed condolences to the families of the victims.
