The Department of Sociology, Baptist College Kohima and Sechü campus, organised its 3rd Sociological Dialogue on the topic “Student movements in Nagaland: Analysis on their issues, strategies and achievements” on September 5 at Rivenburg Chapel Hall, Kohima.
Asenlo Khing, Junior Divisional Accountant, Department of Treasuries and Accounts, Government of Nagaland, and Research Scholar, Department of Political Science, Nagaland University, addressed the programme as the speaker.
In his address, Khing provided insights into the historical development and growth of student movements in Nagaland.
He highlighted major issues taken up by student organisations, including the Naga Political Issue, Inner Line Permit and undocumented immigration, protection of Naga identity, scholarships, meritocracy in recruitment and the establishment of the Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB).
He also discussed strategies adopted by student movements and highlighted their achievements.
Sociology major students of the 3rd and 5th semesters, along with teaching faculty from both campuses, attended the programme and actively participated in the interaction.
The programme was chaired by Dr Khobu Tsolo, Assistant Professor, Sociology, while the welcome address was delivered by Veshetsülü Rüho, Assistant Professor, Sociology.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Vincent Kent, HoD and Assistant Professor, Sociology.
