Around 90 competitors take part in three weight categories at Alichen
Around 90 competitors took part in the first arm-wrestling championship organised by Forge Warriors at the Police Ground, Alichen, on Saturday, with around 200 people attending the event.
The competition was held in three weight categories – Lightweight (below 65 kg), Middleweight (65–80 kg) and Heavyweight (80 kg and above).
Anky won the Lightweight category, while Moakum took the Middleweight title and Ekongmen won the Heavyweight category.
Seliba Thonger, Imlisunep and Toshiakum finished runners-up in the respective categories.
The event also featured a tug-of-war competition, which was won by Lean Wolf Gym.
Participants came from different gyms, including Wolf Gym, Mokokchung, 707 Gym and 3B Gym, along with participants from the Alichen area.
Shreemati Kurpreet Gaur, IPS, Chief Assistant Commandant, attended the event as chief guest in place of P Bendangchuba Jamir, NPS, Commandant, 2nd NAP Alichen, who was unable to attend due to official duties.
Addressing the gathering, Gaur congratulated Forge Warriors on organising its first arm-wrestling championship and said sporting initiatives could provide young people with a constructive avenue to channel their energy and abilities.
Gaur said that, in her experience as a police officer, she had seen talented young people with strong physical abilities become involved in undesirable activities. She encouraged the participants to continue pursuing sports and competitive activities.
She also conveyed the Commandant’s greetings and appreciation to the organisers.
The championship was organised as part of Forge Warriors’ initiative to provide a platform for arm wrestling and other strength-based sporting activities in the area.
