The president of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee 9NPCC), K. Therie in a press note has said that the Nagaland MLA, Imkong L Imchen’s statement that Assam Chief Minister and NEDA Chairman, Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that “there is sufficient room for accommodating the NSCN(IM)’s demand on Flag and Constitution” has raised confusion in the minds of the people.
Imchen is purported to have said those words while interacting with a section of the media on Friday in the wake of the closed-door meeting between the Core Committee of the Parliamentary Committee on Naga Political Issue led by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Assam Chief Minister and Convener of North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) Himanta Biswa Sarma at Chümoukedima on Thursday.
“It looks like flag and constitution are tailed with competencies according to Shri Imchen. He further admitted he has not read the competencies,” Therie said, while demanding that the competencies be made transparent “if they are likely to impact Nagaland state boundaries and Nagaland people.” Therie said that Congress will not blindly support the negotiating parties.
Therie said that the Government of India, the Union Home Minister and the state BJP president Temjen Imna Along have made the GoI’s stand clear on the issue and added that there is no change in the GoI’s stand.
“When the Union Home Minister himself has made the stand of the GoI on the issue clear, how can the NEDA Chairperson give such an assurance? If there is room for accommodating these demands, then what is withholding the GoI from implementing the solution?” Therie questioned, and stated that the statement must be clarified clearly before the people to clear the confusion caused.
