The Razeba Public Organisation Kohima (RPOK) organised its 2nd edition of the Open Badminton Tournament at the NLA Multi-Purpose Hall, Kohima, on October 2 under the theme “Smash for fitness”.

Speaking at the opening of the tournament, former RPOK president Deo Movi underlined that more than the game itself, fellowship with members of one’s own community is important.
Citing the importance of staying grounded in one’s roots, he asserted the need to revive this sense of belonging, stating that “however educated you are, however rich you are or however popular you are, if you forget your roots, you are nothing.”
In this regard, he also exhorted the gathering to take pride in their mother tongue, expressing concern over the diminishing use of one’s language and encouraging them to learn as many languages as possible.
He also urged the participants to maintain cleanliness and set an example as a “cultured community”. He hoped that the players would exhibit the true spirit of sportsmanship and go on to become professional players in the days to come.
President of the Razeba Public Organisation Kohima Daniel Domeh declared the tournament open, while Rev. Fr. Anthony Rozu Dukru said the invocation. Earlier, Zhovi Dukru briefed the participants on the basic rules of the tournament, and Mosonyi Movi delivered the chairperson’s remarks.
In the men’s singles category, Revilu Movi (11 points) was declared the winner, while Modosou Krocha (7 points) came second. Sharhunyi Movi and Rakovi Movi emerged winners with 14 points each in the Amateur category, while Rhuvi Domeh and Tho-o Shupao were placed second with 12 points each.
In the Intermediate category, Mosonyi Movi and Revilu Movi won with 15 points each, while Vilunyi Movi and Pulu Movi came second with 9 points each.
